This course is one half of NESHTA’s Designing and Delivering Effective Training workshop, which conforms to and references the new ANSI standard, Criteria for Accepted Practices in Safety, Health and Environmental Training. Training adults—particularly in the workplace where resistance to new or different methods is high—can be very difficult. Knowing how to get your audience’s attention, keep it and make learning happen is a formidable challenge. This workshop and its practical exercises deliver the basic knowledge and skills you will need to become a dynamic and effective trainer. It will show how people learn differently and teach techniques and strategies that you can implement to help your audience understand and learn. Subjects to be covered are:

This workshop provides information on IATA/DOT regulatory changes and practical examples of shipping sample and waste by air and highway. It will help hazmat employees comply with 49 CFR 172.704(c)(2), which requires training and testing every three years. Topics to be addressed are hazmat identification techniques, new marking and labeling requirements, new shipping paper requirements and emergency response information recommendations. In-class examples will include mathematical Class 6 determination, PCB shipping modal differences, SUMA canister hazard determination and shipping, small quantities vs. excepted quantities, materials of trade, and hazardous waste reminders. The test will be segmented so students can complete only the parts they need (air or highway only). Students will receive IATA regulations, federal regulations, course slides and a certificate of completion. This class is a refresher not an initial shipping class.
