David Downing is a professor of aerospace engineering at the University of Kansas, and the director of the Kansas Flight Test Center. He teaches courses and does research in advanced flight control, instrumentation systems, and flight testing. Downing was formerly an aerospace engineer at NASA Langley Research Center, a systems engineer at the NASA Electronics Research Center, and an assistant professor of Systems Engineering at Boston University. He received a B.S.E. degree in aerospace engineering, an M.S.E. degree in instrumentation engineering from the University of Michigan, and a S.C.D. degree in instrumentation engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
