Adaptive Aerostructures for Missiles, Munitions and UAVs

Description

Overview of adaptive material types, characteristics, and capabilities. Working principles of current and future flight-proven adaptive aerostructures will be presented. Classroom demonstrations of adaptive canards, stabilators, rudders, and ailerons will be presented for aircraft ranging from micro aerial vehicles through adaptive munitions up to F-15s.

Target Audience

Designed for managers and practicing engineers specializing in the development, analysis, and/or testing of advanced missiles, munitions, and UAVs.

Course Outline

Day One

Fundamentals of adaptive materials
Analysis, manufacturing and integration techniques for shape-memory alloys, electrostrictors, magnetorheological fluids and piezoelectric actuators
Electrical network architectures and power handling

Day Two

Applications, design and modeling fundamentals:

Ultra-high bandwidth (200+ Hz) missile flight control surface actuators
Adaptive grid fin actuators for conventional missiles, hovering missiles and convertible UAVs
Update on European adaptive weapon system and UAV actuator systems
Adaptive airspike actuators
Hardening techniques for hand-launch (100+kgs) munition actuators
Flight control actuator designs for hard-launch munitions from 5.56 through 155mm
Hypersonic projectile actuators (proportional, Mach 9+, <5ms)
Compressed weapon adaptive actuator configurations/designs
Low cost gravity weapon and cannon shell actuators
Adaptive observables treatments (RCS, IR, acoustic suppression)
Adaptive dragless wing technology
Practical morphing wing technology
High precision optics stabilization
Vibration damping/isolation
