Introduction to aerospace avionics explaining environmental reality of aerospace vehicles, software validation and verification standards for airlines and new civil aviation databus techniques.

Target Audience

Designed for avionics engineers, electronic testing laboratory personnel, airframe systems and flight test engineers, government research laboratory personnel, FAA Designated Engineering Representatives (DERs) and military personnel procuring civil equipment.

RTCA/DO-254 Design Assurance Guidance for Hardware
System safety and system design and analysis: human engineering, fault tree analysis techniques, and failure mode and effects analysis
SAE ARP 4761 Safety Assessment Guidelines
SAE ARP 4754 Certification Considerations
Reliability prediction
Radio-Frequency-Interference (RFI)
Precipitation static

Day Three

Natural lightning and thunderstorms
System installations: MIL-STD 810, MIL-STD-704, nickel-cadmium batteries
Basic instrumentation: altimeter, airspeed, Mach and IVSI
Digital air data systems: pitot and static systems
Reduced Vertical Separation Minimum (RVSM)
Radio propagation

Day Four

Terrestrial local radio navigation: ADF, marker beacon, VOR, localizer, glide slope, MLS, DME and TACAN
Terrestrial long range navigation: Loran-C
Satellite Navigation Systems: GPS constellation, protocol and accuracy
Transponder radar beacon system: ATCRBS Secondary Radar Characteristics, Mode A, C and S
Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS)

Future RTCA and FAA planning: VHF communications, data link, automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast, aeronautical spectrum planning and free flight
