The Kansas Fire & Rescue Training Institute was created in 1949 by Kansas law to provide training for the Kansas Fire Service. The Institute is a dynamic organization providing training services through a "Mobile Fire Academy" concept. This concept is designed to accommodate local needs through training delivered anytime, anyplace, or anywhere in Kansas.
In cooperation with the Kansas Fire Service Training Commission, the Institute offers a wide range of training topics and services. Training includes the knowledge and skills necessary to operate at all levels of the fire service from the rookie fire fighter to the most experienced fire chief. Funded by the State of Kansas, most training services are offered to Kansas fire fighters and fire departments at little or no cost.

The Institute is also accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress and the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications to issue national certifications for fire service professionals in fourteen disciplines. Awarded on successful completion of a rigorous examination process, national certifications are a significant career accomplishment and are recognized throughout North America and the world.
