Fire Inspector I

Location:Kansas State Fire Marshal's Office at Topeka Training Center, 324 Jefferson Street Topeka, KS 66607-1185
Orientation Details:Orientation will take place June 28th at 1:00 pm, orientation is approximately 1-2 hours in length.
Class Details:Class will be help on July 23-24-25 and July 30-31- Aug 1 with final test being given on 8/2/12.

Time:8:00 AM–5:00 PM
Description:This course is designed to provide the student with the fundamental knowledge and skills to conduct basic fire safety inspections. Students will be introduced to various codes to develop a working knowledge of the inspection process. Each student should be familiar with the codes and standards in effect within their jurisdiction. Topics addressed in this course will include the fire inspector's responsibilities and role in code enforcement, general fire prevention practices, certain competencies, certain life safety considerations, certain fire safety requirements related to hazardous materials, special hazards of electrical, and fire protection systems. It is the intent of this course is to meet the minimum NFPA standards for Inspector 1.
***Participants should register for this class at least two weeks prior to the start of class to receive the pre-course assignments. This course is designed to prepare the participant for the optional Fire Inspector I test. The NFPA 1031, Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Inspector, 2009 edition is referenced in this training. Text: Fire and Code Enforcement, seventh edition. (Furnished by the student.) The class is 40 hours in length and the optional certification exam will be scheduled in addition to the 40 hours.
