ClearText 2012, No. 5 Come See KF&RTI at the Kansas State Fair
September 7–16

It's that time of year when everyone begins to look forward to fall, cooler weather, and the Kansas State Fair!

This year KF&RTI will have an exhibit to showcase our new Grain Engulfment Rescue Trailer at the State Fair. We will be there daily September 7–16. This trailer was made possible by a gift from the Kansas Farmers Service Association (KFSA), Kansas Cooperative Council (KCC) and Kansas Grain and Feed Association (KGFA).

If you plan to attend the Kansas State Fair, please drop by for a visit and see the new trailer. We will be located on Fort Riley Blvd., approximately four blocks north of the fair administration building (see map).

The Grain Engulfment Rescue Trailer includes a grain hopper and a grain bin. It simulates grain entrapment emergencies, providing participants with practical experience for performing these types of rescues. This is a self-contained training unit and participants only need to provide basic personal protective clothing. We request that local grain-handling companies provide 150 bushels of grain for the training. When the class is done, the grain is returned unharmed.

This unique course is designed for training firefighters and grain facility employees at the same time, with no cost to the participants. Training together, firefighters and grain company employees can begin forming the team that is essential in the event of an actual rescue. Forming this team in advance will greatly improve and ensure a smooth rescue operation.

If you have questions or to schedule this course, please contact the Institute.

See you at the state fair!
