A historical approach to the major social and philosophical foundations of American education, with an emphasis on the relation of educational theory to classroom practice. Students must be admitted to teacher preparation programs (both undergraduate and Graduate Licensure Program) in the School of Education or School of Music. Emphasis on those ideas and historical roots that are relevant to contemporary issues in teaching and school administration. Students who have taken ELPS 450 will not receive credit for this course.
