PRE 305 Development and Learning of the Young Child (3).

An introduction to the psychological study of young children and their behavior in the preschool and elementary school setting. Theories of learning, motivation, and physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development and their relevance to educational processes will be examined. Emphasis will be placed on observing and studying individuals and groups and describing their characteristics and the process of development, as well as considering implications for instructional strategies for this age group. Students must be admitted to teacher preparation programs (both undergraduate and Graduate Licensure Program) in the School of Education or School of Music. Eight written assignments; midcourse and final examinations. Instructor: Robert Hohn.

Emphasis will be placed on observing and studying individuals and groups and describing their characteristics and the process of development, as well as considering implications for instructional strategies at the secondary level. Students must be admitted to teacher preparation programs (both undergraduate and Graduate Licensure Program) in the School of Education or School of Music.
