Enrollment • Tuition and Fees
The total tuition and fees for each course are found with the course description and are approved by the Kansas Board of Regents. Tuition and fees are due at the time of enrollment. The following sections describe how tuition and fees are determined for Independent Study courses.
Print-based Courses
Tuition. Tuition for undergraduate students is $218.90 per credit hour in undergraduate-level courses and $270.50 per credit hour in graduate-level courses. Tuition for graduate students is $270.50 per credit hour regardless of the course level.
Course Fees. Students enrolling in Film and Media Studies, Theatre, Education, or Music courses pay an additional $19.30 per credit hour, and students enrolling in Social Welfare courses pay an additional $26.50 per credit hour.
Off-campus Area Fees. The undergraduate off-campus area fee is $45.00 per credit hour, and the graduate off-campus area fee is $45.00 per credit hour.
Materials, Postage, and Services Fee. A $50 fee is assessed to cover course materials, postage, processing of assignments, and other student services. Additional fees may be assessed for books, DVDs, CD-ROMs, videotapes, or audiotapes supplied as part of your course materials.
International Postage Fee. Students outside the USA pay $50 for return of assignments for each course. All returned assignments are sent airmail to students outside the country. APO or FPO addresses are exempt from this fee.
Online Courses
Tuition for KU Degree-Seeking Students. Undergraduate degree-seeking KU students who are Kansas residents pay the resident tuition of $218.90 per credit hour in undergraduate-level courses and $270.50 per credit hour in graduate-level courses. Graduate degree-seeking KU students who are Kansas residents pay $270.50 per credit hour regardless of the course level.
Undergraduate degree-seeking KU students who are nonresidents pay the nonresident tuition of $575.00 per credit hour in undergraduate-level courses and $646.25 per credit hour in graduate-level courses. Graduate degree-seeking KU students who are nonresidents pay the nonresident tuition of $646.25 per credit hour regardless of the course level.
Tuition for Nondegree-seeking Students. If you are not currently enrolled in a KU degree program and have not been enrolled at the KU Lawrence campus in the last 12 months, you will pay resident tuition of $218.90 per credit hour in undergraduate-level courses, and resident tuition of $270.50 per credit hour in graduate-level courses, regardless of your Kansas residence status.
If you have graduated from KU within the last 12 months, you will pay the resident tuition regardless of your residency if you certify that such courses will not be used toward completion of a KU degree. However, if you wish to apply online courses toward a degree, then the appropriate resident or nonresident undergraduate/graduate tuition rate and other appropriate fees will be assessed.
