Technical Requirements

To view some sections of this course you will need to have a recent version of the Flash plug-in installed in your browser. If you do not already have this plug-in you can download it free at this site.

The appearance of mathematical symbols on the Web is influenced by the type of computer you use (PC or Macintosh), the operating system on that computer, and the browser (Netscape or Internet Explorer). Every attempt has been made to be certain the necessary symbols appear correctly in this course for multiple combinations of platform, operating system, and browser type.

We recommend viewing this course on a PC (Windows 98 or newer) using Netscape 7.1, or on a Macintosh (OS 9 and newer) using either Netscape 7.1 or Internet Explorer 5 or newer. Browsers newer than those recommended will work equally well. Older browers may not display the pages and symbols correctly.

It is possible to take the course using Internet Explorer on a PC, but some of the symbols may appear slightly changed. If you are using Internet Explorer on a PC, be sure to familiarize yourself with their correct appearance. On the symbols page you will find a picture of the symbol (in the graphic column) that is not affected by your computer. The symbols in the number code column show how your computer displays the symbol codes. These can vary from computer to computer. Sometimes a graphic is used in the course instead of coding to eliminate browser error.
