Summit Overview

This summit will provide a wide range of topics of highest interest to advanced practice nurses. Topics will include clinical practice, genetics, ethics, policy updates, and trends and issues in coding and billing affecting advanced practice nurses across the nation.

The purpose of this summit is to provide:

a forum to discuss critical practice issues
education to promote and support the advancement of new evidence into practice
opportunities to learn practical strategies for managing clinical and workplace challenges
new resources for immediate use in service improvement for patients and their families

Submit an Abstract for a Storyboard

Friday, February 20, 2009, a Storyboard Wine & Cheese Reception will provide the unique opportunity for attendees to dialogue with colleagues about clinical practice and workplace innovations in an informal atmosphere. Submit a storyboard topic now to share a practice innovation. The following are examples only and are not meant to limit submissions that can stimulate practice innovation.

Clinical topics
- a complex case study
- strategies for family or population-based care (palliative, chronic, diabetic)
- health education & literacy
- safety/quality
Workplace
- conflict management
- technology integration
- billing & coding
- partnerships
- coaching & mentoring

Topic Submission Instructions

Abstracts for storyboard topics should be single-spaced on 8-1/2" x 11" document with 1" margins. Use 12-point Times New Roman font. E-mail a one-page topic submission as a Word attachment (.doc or.rtf file ONLY) following the guidelines below. Send to mgambino@kumc.edu. Topic submissions must be received by midnight, October 31, 2008.

Provide the following information in the topic submission:

Topic title
List of authors
Contact person (correspondence will be e-mailed only to this person as the primary contact)
The clinical or organizational issue/topic (why)
Story (what, who, when, where)
How evidence influenced the story
Summary of results/lessons learned

Selection Process

All topic submissions will be independently and blind-reviewed by members of the selection committee. Selection and awards will be based on the topic's value to other practitioners, clinical applicability, scholarly presentation, and adherence to guidelines.

Notification Process

E-mail notification of acceptance will be made by November 14, 2008 to the primary presenter only. It is the responsibility of the primary presenter to contact all co-presenters and see that they submit the items below. The primary presenter assumes full responsibility for the duplication and distribution of any handouts they wish to use.

If selected, topic submissions will be included in the conference syllabus.

Presenters will be asked to:

Complete a Conflict of Interest Form
Submit a recent resume/CV
The Storyboard displays are 6 ft. long x 4 ft . tall. Presenters will be able to display Storyboards on this bulletin board-style device. Please bring push-pins, fasteners, etc. needed. To be accepted for a Storyboard presentation, the author must:
Attend the summit (Fees: regular registration—$195; early-bird (before Feb. 6, 2009)—$175; storyboard presenters—$140; students—$75).
Be present during the storyboard presentation session on Friday, February 20, 2009 from 4:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.

Presenter Fees

The primary Storyboard presenter is eligible for a reduced registration fee of $140.

All Storyboard presenters and co-presenters are required to register and pay a registration fee. Only the primary presenter will receive a discount for registration.
