Overview

This healthcare program provides updated information and skills for healthcare professionals enabling them to improve their quality of patient care. Paired presentations will be delivered consisting of an MD component-emphasizing current surgical concepts and new techniques in orthopedic sports medicine, and a physical therapist or athletic trainer component-providing specific rehabilitation guidelines and protocols based on the best available evidence.

All major areas of the body will be covered including:

Multi-directional instability of the shoulder
Elbow ligament injury
Hip arthroscopy
Ankle instability
ACL reconstruction
Clinical prediction rules for the lumbar spine

This symposium is designed for physical therapists, athletic trainers, occupational therapists, and others with an interest in sports medicine.

Objectives

At the completion of this symposium, participants should be able to:

Evaluate current surgical procedures and apply rehabilitation techniques.
Critically appraise different rehabilitation protocols.
Utilize treatment protocols for specific surgical conditions and pass them on to other rehabilitation professionals.
Apply evidence-based rehabilitation protocols to their patients.
