Overview & Target Audience
The overall objective of this program is to prepare nurses
and other health professionals and childhood educators with substantive
approaches to conducting basic visual assessments and eye examinations for
infant to pre-school childhood populations. The goal is to promote early
detection of vision-related problems. This program has special content aimed at
family nurse practitioners/students who provide primary care in multiple
settings.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this program, participants will:
- Recall essential eye anatomy and vision "norms" associated with infant to pre-school age growth and development.
- Use age-appropriate equipment, observation and techniques to conduct an infant to pre-school age eye examination.
- Assess for pathologic vision problems commonly found in multi-cultural infant and pre-school children.
- Access appropriate referral mechanisms to get at-risk children into the care of vision health professionals.
- Link vision health to social development in infant to pre-school age children.

- You may start and stop this course as many times as you wish and at any time of the day or night. While it will take you approximately 2 1/2 hours to complete the course, you do not need to complete it in one sitting.

- In the Lessons link, you will find six content links on each side of the Lessons Menu box. Click on, read and complete the Introduction, Pre-test, and five of the six lesson modules (Anatomy, Development, Pathology, Equipment and either the Healthcare Providers or Other Professionals).
- After completing the five modules, take the 10 question post-test. CEUs will be available based on achieving a score of equal to or greater than 75%.
- Note: A bonus case study and additional 10 question quiz is also available for Nurse Practitioners, but is not included in the CEU scoring.
