Academic and Student Support Services Information Fair – Symposium participants will have the opportunity to meet, chat and gather information from representative from academic departments, students support services and student organizations. We encourage all students to take advantage of this opportunity to learn about all KU has to offer.

Keynote Speaker – Terrence Hall, Assistant Chief of Police – KCKS and KU Alum
Breakout Session 1: Leadership and Social Media – Leaders in today’s world have to know how to communicate their message. Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and email are imperative to get your message across. This session will teach you how to do that.
Breakout Session 2: Difficult Dialogues – How do you bring hardcore topics to the forefront? Today’s young people are getting and sending the wrong message with their language and slang. As a leader, you will learn how to talk about what others are afraid to do.
Breakout Session 3: On your Own – You worked hard in school and you made it to college. Now what? This session will teach you how to navigate college to make the most out of it. It’s a must for every leader.
Breakout Session 4: Financial Leadership – Being a leader is not always about being there for others, it’s also about being good to yourself. This session will help you be financially responsible so that you can help others.
Breakout Session 5: Unseen Kids – TV and the media paint a somewhat distorted view of the typical high School experience. Many students go through school with a much different reality. We will talk about these unseen kid’s experiences, illustrated through music and stories. Then talk about how staff and student leaders can make these experiences more positive.

Breakout Session for 9th and 10th grades – It is never too early to start preparing for college. In this session, 9th and 10th grade students will learn about what classes to take and the advantage of those classes. They will also learn about getting involved in school and their community to enhance their resume for scholarship opportunities. Current students will also be on hand to answer questions about their experience and to offer advice.
Breakout Session for Juniors – You’re almost there! Learn about what you need to do to prepare for your senior year and beyond. Get tips on the college search and how to make the best of your college application. Current students will also be on hand to answer questions about their experience and to offer advice.
Breakout Session for Seniors – This is it! You’ve worked hard but you still have a little to go. Learn about what you need to apply for scholarships, application and college search tips and what to expect at the University of Kansas. Current students will also be on hand to answer questions about their experience and to offer advice.
Closing Remarks and Check out – 2:30 p.m.
