This annual event brings together city and county administrators from across the state of Kansas. Sessions focus on reviewing the state’s current fiscal and economic environment, reflecting on contributions practitioners make to the professional practice of public administration, and strategizing to meet challenges facing local governments.
Special Pre-Conference Event:
Inspiring Women in Public Administration
Wednesday, April 20 • 1–4 p.m., with reception to follow
The "Inspiring Women" pre-conference will highlight research on how women approach leadership in the public sector and feature practitioners speaking about their experiences in local government. Join us to participate in discussions with women leaders about successful leadership strategies and to network with the first women graduates of the KU MPA program and learn from their experience. Spend an afternoon with colleagues and students in an inspiring atmosphere where you can gain insight into your own leadership contributions.
The conference will feature keynote speakers Camilla Stivers and Pat Martel. Camilla Stivers, the most respected scholar on women in public administration, will discuss her research on the differences between the approaches of women and men to public service. Pat Martel is City Manager of Daly City, California and serves on the ICMA Board. She has had an interesting and successful career in local government. Several women city managers and local government leaders will share their insights into contemporary leadership challenges A registration fee of $15 will be collected at the door.
