Each year the Bureau of Traffic Safety (BTS), Kansas Department of Transportation, sponsors this day-and-a-half professional conference, featuring four program tracks:
A total of 20 workshops are offered—each is open to anyone. While some of the session topics are specialized, most are interesting to a general audience, as well. For career-looking youth, the program tracks can be seen as four windows into the vital, multi-faceted world of traffic safety. Conferences are generally held in April or May and generally alternate between Kansas City and Wichita.
In an effort to encourage youth participation, BTS makes scholarships available for high school and college-age students—individuals or groups—with an interest in transportation safety. The invitation includes:

Each student must be registered. Contact Bureau of Traffic Safety, below, for a brochure with registration form. Also the forms will be available soon on the conference Web site. For a convenient group registration form, contact Bureau of Traffic Safety. Mail to the KU address indicated on the forms. Your payment must accompany registration.
Room reservations and payment are the responsibility of sponsors, sponsoring institutions, parents, or individual attendees. Registrations must be made by 5 p.m., April 6 to be guaranteed at the conference rate. Reimbursement is at conference rate only: $92 plus tax per night for between 1–4 per room.
Rooms are expected to be apportioned by gender, four to a room, and booked in close proximity to sponsor/chaperones, who are responsible for minimizing noise and hall traffic.
Please mail, e-mail or fax the name, address, and social security number of each individual to be reimbursed along with copies of registration forms and hotel statements to BTS (see contact information, below). In the case of a business or institution, send FEIN (federal employer ID number). Please identify hotel statements with "Youth TSC Hotel Reimbursement." Generally, sponsors handle reservations, and sponsors or schools handle payment for all participants in group.
