To register, select an option from the list in the right-hand column of this page.
The registration fee is $200 for MAC members, $250 for nonmembers and $150 for students. Registrants will receive admission to the day-and-a-half-long symposium, one lunch and refreshments (including a Thursday night meet-and-greet reception at the hotel).
Enrollment is limited, so registration applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, and current MAC membership assures preference for advance registration. A waiting list will be kept through October 3, and those on it will be contacted by October 10. Registrants will be contacted by e-mail regarding acceptance and additional details, such as updates on content, preconference readings and lunch preferences.

We encourage you to send a substitute if you cannot attend. A full refund of registration fees, less a $25 administrative fee, will be available if requested in writing and received by seven days before the symposium date. No refunds will be made after that date. A $30 fee will be charged for returned checks. KU Continuing Education reserves the right to cancel the course and return all fees in the event of insufficient registration. The liability of the University of Kansas is limited to the registration fee. The University of Kansas will not be responsible for any losses incurred by registrants, including but not limited to airline cancellation charges or hotel deposits.
This year’s meeting takes place at the Marriott SpringHill Suites in Lawrence, Kansas, home of the University of Kansas. Lawrence, founded in 1854, is known for its leading role in the establishment of Kansas as a free (antislavery) state and for weathering ongoing conflicts between abolitionists and proslavery supporters in the years leading up to the Civil War. Today, Lawrence boasts a vibrant downtown with unique shops, local restaurants and entertainment venues. Visit this link for more information.
The Marriott SpringHill Suites (One Riverfront Plaza, Lawrence, Kansas 66044, 785-841-2700) offers spacious rooms and a scenic location overlooking the Kansas River. Situated at the north end of Lawrence’s historical downtown district, the hotel will house symposium attendees at the special rate of $79 per night (plus applicable taxes), single or double occupancy. View a Google™ Map here.
For reservations, call 1-888-236-2427, or visit the Marriott reservations Web site, and request the Midwest Archives Conference rate. Online registrants enter group code MACMACA for a double queen room or MACMACB for a king room. Reservations must be made by October 8, or the unreserved rooms will be released for general sale. Additional reservations will be accepted based on room availability only. Complimentary parking is included.
Kansas City International Airport (KCI) is within an hour’s drive of Lawrence and the Marriott SpringHill Suites. If you don’t intend to sightsee in the area, you should not need a rental car; the SpringHill Suites are situated on the north end of the historic downtown district, which features many local restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues in easy walking distance. If you need shuttle service from KCI, GTI Transportation offers shuttle service for $50 one-way. Car rental information can be found at www.kansas-city-mci.com/car_rental.html.
If you are driving, tolls are charged by the Kansas Turnpike on I-70 east and west into Lawrence. I-70/Kansas Turnpike exits 202 and 204 to Lawrence will alternately be closed for construction in fall 2008. Refer to the Kansas Turnpike Web site [www.spanningthefuture.com/files/route_maps.pdf] for up-to-date information and driving directions at the time of the event.
